In September 2024, the Polish Committee for Standardisation (PKN) published the PN-IEC 60050-461:2024-09 standard, ‘International Terminology Dictionary for Electrical Engineering. Part 461: Electrical Cables’.
This standard provides equivalents of Polish terms relating to electrical cables to terms used in foreign languages (English, German, Spanish, French and Russian).
One of the important elements of the terminology update is the indication that the correct Polish term is ‘kabel’ (previously, two terms were used, “kabel” and ‘przewód’, which caused many dilemmas). This is an accurate translation of the term and definition of the aforementioned term from English.
Definitions of terms in English are available, among others, on the electropedia website (www.electropedia.org).
We encourage all customers to implement the correct terminology in their areas of activity related to cables.
We are all aware that this will be a long process, involving the need to change long-standing industry habits.
